"Snappy and entertaining ... remarkably deep and revealing ... 9 stars out of 10."

-- Theatreview.

In this celebratory tribute to artist Rita Angus and composer Douglas Lilburn, Jennifer Ward-Lealand and Michael Houstoun join together to present the words and music of these two iconic historical figures.

Playwright, Dave Armstrong, has skillfully assembled excerpts from Angus' letters to create a compelling dialogue, which is reciprocated through the interspersion of Lilburn's music.  The result is an intimate look at the poignant relationship between two nationally cherished artists as well as a glimpse into the rich cultural life of 1940s New Zealand.

Rita and Douglas combines theatre, music and art to tell an unusual love story that lies at the heart of our country's history.
